By the 1980s Fiddlers Ferry power station ran off imported coal supplied continuously by MGR trains. Class 47/0 No. 47214 has taken the line avoiding the goods yard next to the WCML on 11th July 1983 with a loaded train, probably from Ellesmere Port. Unfortunately there is no west-facing curve here so the train will have to reverse once on the Cheshire Lines tracks at Arpley to proceed the short distance further under Bank Quay to the power station.
