The evening sun lights up the Manor House and church in the ancient village of Bradenham, nestling underneath the even more ancient Chiltern beech woodland, and probably unnoticed by most of the commuters on the returning 'Padd' on 29th May 1982. Class 47/0 No. 47110 is in charge of what was by then the last remaining loco-hauled BR passenger service to Paddington on the GW Birmingham line, most of which had become DMUs to Marylebone. Fortunately this area of the Chilterns was spared the attention of the planners of HS2.
