The original Wycombe Railway took advantage of a gap in the Chiltern escarpment to reach Princes Risborough and the Vale of Aylesbury. When the single track route was integrated into the GWR Birmingham direct line the opportunity was take to ease the climb through this gap in the up direction with cuttings and a short tunnel. A WR-named Class 47/0 No. 47090 'Vulcan' is easing down the 1 in 88 gradient with a short mixed goods for Chinnor cement works on 14th October 1983. The up line veers away on a separate alignment. The legendary railway sound recordist Peter Handford lived by the track and made many recordings for Argo here at the end of steam.
