By the 1980s the GWR direct line to Birmingham had been rationalised from Princes Risborough onwards. The down platform was taken out of use, the up through line lifted and the section on to Bicester and Aynho Junction singled. With hindsight not a great plan. Class 25/2 No. 25119 is waiting for a path ahead on the main line while a down passenger service is signalled, crossing over from the up platform on 14th October 1983. Through trains on to the Aylesbury branch go straight ahead and right at the junction.
