The German E44 Class were produced in the early 1930s for general passenger and freight services. Some 50 years later No. 144040-3 finds itself paired with the only slightly more modern wartime Class E94 No. 194563-3, having brought a freight train into the yard at Wurzburg on 11th August 1982. The latter is one of the higher-power Class 194.5 locos.
