Class 47/4 No. 47972 'The Royal Army Ordnance Corps' in its distinctive Technical services livery has been pressed into InterCity service on 2nd May 1993 without getting the washdown which top-link status would merit. The express is travelling south of Oxford on the spinal route to Didcot and Reading at Kennington Junction, with the former link line to Thame and Princes Risborough turning off over the Thames in the background. By then the line was truncated back to serve just the motor works and oil Depot on the south side of Oxford.
