When the Wycombe Railway from Princes Risborough to Oxford was closed to passenger traffic in the 1960s, the eastern end of the line was retained to serve an oil Depot at the country market town of Thame. In the 1970s regular deliveries were made from Fawley refinery with mostly Class 33 locomotives allocated to this inter-regional working. Thus it was that Southern Region locos could be seen on the former GW and GC joint line from London, the Wycombe Railway route to Maidenhead also having been severed. on 26th August 1977 Class 33/0 No. 33058 is hauling a load of discharged tanks up the gradient away from High Wycombe under threatening skies in a brief sunny interval.
