Stone trains from the Somerset quarries seem to have picked up rapidly in January after the festive season shutdown, although the lunchtime ARC train from Whatley is not back to its regular weekday frequency. Its slot today is occupied by a Westbury to Acton light engine movement by Colas Rail Class 70/8 No. 70809. It is crossing the lower common at Hungerford, newly returned to green after several days of deep freeze, although the Kennet & Avon canal in the background is still frozen over on 23rd January 2017.
