It's 1975 and the sun is setting on the short career of the diesel-hydraulic Westerns with British Railways, literally casting its sunset tones in the twilight of a winter afternoon on No. D1013 'Western Ranger' as it rushes through Taplow on the GW mainline with an express for Paddington on 30th December 1975. The redundant east signal box is still in situ as are the 'down main' platform buildings and awning, but the once extensive goods yard and shed have been rationalised out of existence.
