The railway through Newbury is now fully electrified with the OLE power on, but there is No. indication that 9-car IET No. 800304 is able to take advantage of this as it slows for its booked stop while working the down Torbay Express on 7th December 2018, the pantographs having been lowered at Reading. The original GWR awnings are clinging on until the next stage of modernisation although the matching footbridge has been a casualty of installing the wires.
