Refurbished and modernised Sofia Metro stock Type 81-717.4 / 714.4 set No. 1001 breaks through to the surface at Musagenitsa station on 22nd March 2024. We see it working a LINE M2 service from Slivnitsa to BUSINESS PARK as indeed the destination screen confirms. These Metrowagonmarsh Type 81-717.4/714.4 introduced into service on the Sofia metro system in 1998 were the first units to see service on the relatively new Bulgarian Metro network. Now, in 2024 12 train sets are being completely upgraded to extend their working life by 15 years. New cabs and brand new interiors are the obvious differences to the travelling public. Not so obvious is the installation of new asynchronous traction equipment together with weight reduction measures to reduce power consumption.
