Years before HS2 inflicted scars upon the landscape in the Vale of Aylesbury the remaining single track of the abandoned GW and GC joint line was still seeing regular bin-liner workings to the landfill site at Calvert as well as occasional excursion trains to Quainton Rd and beyond. The Aylesbury Centenary Express, celebrating the 19th century arrival of the Metropolitan line to Aylesbury on 30th August 1992, has GWR super-power on the short run to the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. Castle Class No. 5029 'Nunney Castle' is in charge of the top-and-tail formation of NSE Mark 1s, with another GWR brass safety valve cover just visible at the rear, and the Chiltern escarpment prominent on the distant skyline.
