The number of SIEMENS Smartron electric locomotives are steadily increasing in number in Bulgaria, acquired by both the State run Railway BDZ PP for passenger services and by the growing number of private operators tapping into the freight market. BULMARKET Smartron No. 80026 is a classic example with the company vinyls applied over the standard plain blue SIEMENS paintwork. An interesting working here at Voluyak with the BULMARKET Class 80 piloting OBB SIEMENS Krauss Maffei A/C electric No. 1116 108 westbound with a rake of box-wagons on 3rd May 2023. Just visible at the rear of the train is a second OBB loco, 1116 114. All three locomotives have their pantographs raised and all three were working. The exact details of the working are unknown but were heading west towards the Serbian border.
