Possibly due to uncertainty surrounding the fate of Steventon bridge in the background, this section of the GW main line to Swindon has stayed blissfully clear of electrification artefacts, making it an ideal spot to capture LMS Pacific No. 46233 Duchess of Sutherland with todays Cathedrals Express from Southend to Gloucester on its way to its water stop at Challow further along the Vale on 10th October 2017. The broken cloud is producing even lighting on the wrong side side of the train - enough to show that the Duchess has a realistic patina of work-stain, as would have been the case in much of its working life before preservation.
