The electrification of the Great Eastern main line was achieved in two phases, in the interim with electric haulage only as far as Ipswich. On 27th July 1985 Class 47/4 No. 47431 is just arriving with an express from Norwich, while Class 86/2 No. 86243 'The Boys Brigade' stands by on the through line waiting to take over for the journey on towards London Liverpool St. Clearance of the 25kV lines under the metal footbridge looks slight by modern standards.
