An unidentified Class 47 diesel heads a westbound express at Causeway Crossing in Steventon on 13th July 1975. Features on interest include the crossing box of GW origin, the cast nameplate 'Causeway Crossing Ground Frame', the separate pedestrian walkway with independently locked wicket gates, and the half gates across the roadway worked manually by a large handwheel from within the box. Electronic technology is deployed so that the keeper can also operate Stocks Lane crossing - the camera stand is visible next to the distant view of Didcot power main stack. The two crossings still provide the only road access to the southern part of the village, severed when Brunel drove the GWR right through the middle of Steventon and its medieval causeway. The box is long gone, as is its modern replacement.
