Electrification progress to Newbury is not apparent in this shot of 59 class-leader No. 59001 powering through on the centre lines with the Acton - Merehead empties on 6th October 2017. The characteristic old footbridge is due to be replaced and there is evidence of footings for the new one next to me, marking a change of location which will No. doubt prove unpopular with regular travellers. The major change is the demolition of the Sterling Cables tower No. longer dominating the skyline.
