Who'd be an engine-driver on a day like this! Traffic on the Paddington - Reading line is disrupted by an incident, and consequently today's Cathedrals Express to the WSR is nearly an hour late out of Victoria. After some smart running the deficit is much reduced when the train reaches its water stop at Newbury, but further delays ensue as the preceding local DMU is itself delayed. Visibility is down to 50 yards on the Berks/Wilts border and forging ahead through Hungerford there is virtually nil visibility from the cab as the generous exhaust sweeps along the side of Bulleid Pacific No. 34052 'Lord Dowding' on 17th December 2016.
