Class 47/0 No. 47227 gathers speed carefully on the 1 in 38 gradient down from Dainton summit tunnel with a westbound express on 21st April 1976. The oversize portal favoured by Brunel is partially obscured by an overbridge providing access to the signal box on the down side of the line by the tunnel mouth.
