Brusartsi Junction in Northern Bulgaria was one of number of sites that were used to store withdrawn BDZ-PP Class 32 and 33 Electric Multiple Units as recorded here with this image taken on 16th April 2017. Six years later the site has been completely cleared following the scrapping of all the EMU sets on site. In this view, left to right, 32 115/32 116, an unidentified Class 32 coupled to 32 067/32 068. In total around a dozen units were stored here, one of which was of the rarer Class 33, set No. 33 007/33 008. Today in 2023 a few sets remain in service but only due to the fact that many of the SIEMENS EMU Class 30 and 31 units have been stored out of traffic due to various problems with maintenance and constant vandalism. However a major refurbishment program is under way and once all the SIEMENS units are operational these classic Soviet-era Riga units will be finally withdrawn for good. Or will they?.
