A considerable upgrade of the platform area at Pirdop has been undertaken since my previous visit to this well known location on the sub-Balkan line. And not just the platform, locomotive power on the long distance services have also seen an upgrade with the introduction of the fifteen strong fleet of SIEMENS Smarton's. Heading westbound for the capital 80038 has charge of train service FAST 3622 (08:45) Burgas to Sofia on 5th September 2022. The introduction of these new locomotives has helped to reduce journey times where track limits allow.
