At the far western end of the extensive yards at Ipswich three Class 31 locos and a variety of civil engineers' rolling stock are located in the PW Depot opposite the East Suffolk line junction on 3rd April 1976. Here the line diverges from the GE main line to Norwich and curves around the back of the town where a further junction takes it up the East Coast or on to the Felixstowe branch. A Birmingham RCW Class 104 DMU passes on the short trip to Felixstowe while in the distance above the junction signal box can be seen the Harris bacon factory, through which a curve was recently built enabling intermodal services from the Midlands and North West to access Felixstowe container port without having to reverse at Ipswich.
