Designed to highlight the case for the reinstatement of the inland route into Cornwall as an alternative to the vulnerable seaside stretch of track through Dawlish, the 'Royal Oke' on 18th March 2017 - the first direct service from Oakhampton to Paddington for many years - experienced operational difficulties on departure along the single line branch to Crediton. Passengers had to be transferred to different HST stock at Exeter to continue their journey nearly an hour late. The special is seen here running out of path and cruising through Hungerford (losing a further six mins) after the local DMU service to Reading was released from the reversing siding at Bedwyn in front of it.
