The civil engineers are still on site at the west end of Crofton curve making good after removing a venerable old plate girder bridge which has spanned the track here for a time beyond living memory. So a favourite location has had some of its distinctive character removed, and only the severe curvature remains to take the eye as Class 59/2 No. 59205 slides by quietly with the week-daily Whatley Quarry to Dagenham Docks stone train on 4th October 2016. With 43 on, the loco gained 6 minutes on schedule from a standing start at Woodborough loop up the gradient to Savernake Summit.
