Arriva Trains Wales were unable to operate services along the "North & West" Newport to Crewe route due to planned engineering work, which explains why Class 175 No. 175103 was working on Maesteg - Cardiff - Cheltenham duties, as these units are not normally seen on this route. Here, the 0815 Maesteg to Cheltenham service rolls into Chepstow, passing Cross Country's Class 170 No. 170637 working the 0710 Nottingham to Cardiff service.
