Network Rail's New Measurement Train operates for over 80 hours per week and follows a very strict timetable, fitting in with scheduled services. Covering some 111,000 miles per year, the train is able to scrutinise the permanant way in minute detail. The equipment is so accurate, it will take digital images of individual rail fastenings at full line speed of up to 125 m.p.h. Here at Swansea, one of the 'buffer fitted' H.S.T powercars, No. 43014 stands at the head of 1Z20, Old Oak Common-Derby (via Swansea) R.T.C test train on 7th September 2012.
