The Class 42 Warship diesel hydraulics were all withdrawn from BR by the end of 1972, but No. 818 'GLORY' was kept in good external condition and on display by the turntable at Swindon Works on 13th September 1975. In fact the loco stayed on there for the next 10 years before being broken up when the works was shut down, some components finding their way into the refurbishment of classmate No. D832 'ONSLAUGHT'.
