Swindon Works on 2nd December 1977 has a selection of diesel hydraulic locos arranged around the turntable basking in the sunshine. Class 42 No. D821 'Greyhound' looks splendid in a fresh coat of the previous maroon livery applied since withdrawal from BR, whereas Class 52 No. D1015 'Western Champion' looks in a sorry state. However 45 years later, perhaps against the odds, BOTH locos are active in preservation.
