'Warship' Class 42 diesel hydraulic No. 844 'Spartan' moves slowly off Newton Abbot MPD on 19th September 1970. The loco was new from the North British Locomotive Company, Glasgow, in March 1961 and first allocated to Laira (83D). It had a short service life of just 10 years and 6 months, being withdrawn from Newton Abbot in October 1971 and cut up at Swindon Works during May 1972.
