With its second corridor tender fitted, Alan Pegler's Gresley A3 Class Pacific No. 4472 'Flying Scotsman' under the coaling tower at York MPD on 31st August 1969. It was hauling a return railtour, jointly sponsored by Flying Scotsman Enterprises and the LNER Society, from London King's Cross to Newcastle which included a visit to the depot. This was the loco's last duty before shipment from Liverpool Docks to the USA the following month. It was new from Doncaster Works as GNR No. 1472 in February 1923 and was withdrawn as BR No. 60103 from King's Cross MPD during January 1963.
