NORTHERN Trains mid-afternoon (14:26) Carlisle to Leeds service has the top of the southbound climb in sight with less then a mile to run to the summit at Ais Gill. Class 158 DMU set Nos. 158842 and 158859 cross Ais Gill viaduct in classic Settle and Carlisle moody weather conditions on 19th September 2009. The four-arch viaduct spans Ais Gill which flows into the River Eden in the valley below. The remains of the classic occupation over-bridge can be seen in a pile awaiting collection following demolition.
