A Paddington-Cardiff Central HST service bursts from the Western portal of Hillfields Tunnel in Newport with Class 43 HST powercar No. 43171 at the helm. The aforementioned service (1B22, 10:15 Paddington-Cardiff Central) leaves the newer tunnel which was opened in 1910, while to the right; the older tunnel was opened in 1848.
