In a scene of general decay, Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0's Nos. 44936, 44680 and 44846 await their next duties at Crewe South MPD on 1st January 1967. The former was new from Horwich Works as No. 4936 in November 1946 and was withdrawn in August 1967. 44680 was also new from Horwich Works in June 1950 and survived in service until September 1967. 44846 was the oldest member of the trio and was new from Crewe Works as No. 4846 in October 1944. It also survived the longest, being withdrawn during June 1968.
