Having taken over from electric traction, English Electric Type 4s Nos. D430 and No. 420 pull out of Crewe on 17th March 1971 with a London Euston - Glasgow Central service. The former was new from Vulcan Foundry in June 1968 and the latter in April of that year. They became 50030 and 50020 under TOPS and subsequently received the names 'Repulse' and 'Revenge' at Laira during 1978. The former was withdrawn in April 1992 and survives in preservation at Rowsley, the latter was withdrawn in July 1990 and cut-up by CF Booth of Rotherham during June 1992.
