Which loco was the lucky one? A gathering at Gloucester Horton Road MPD on 15th March 1970 finds diesel hydraulics No. D804 'Avenger' and No. D1020 'Western Hero' in company with diesel electric No. D61 'Royal Army Ordnance Corps'. The 'Warship' was withdrawn in October 1971 and scrapped at Swindon Works during March 1972, while the 'Western' was withdrawn in June 1973 and cut up during April 1974, also at Swindon Works. The 'Peak' was more fortunate, becoming Class 45 No. 45112 under TOPS in 1973. It was withdrawn in May 1987 but survives in preservation and is currently at Nemesis Rail in Burton upon Trent.
