Specially cleaned for the occasion by the Depot staff, North British built Stanier Class 4MT 2-6-4T No. 42587 at its home shed of Birkenhead (6C) on 5th March 1967. Four railtours were run that weekend, by Ian Allan and the SLS, to mark the end of the GWR service from Birmingham to Birkenhead Woodside. New from Glasgow as LMS No. 2587 in October 1936, it was first allocated to Chester Midland (6A). The loco was withdrawn from Low Moor in June 1967 and cut-up by Drapers of Hull during January 1968.
