Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0 No's. 45318 and 44929 at a smoky Bolton MPD on 21st April 1968. The former was new from Armstrong Whitworth in February 1937, first allocated to Shrewsbury (4A), withdrawn at the end of steam in August 1968 and cut-up by Drapers of Hull during March 1969. No. 44929 was new from Crewe Works in March 1946 and first allocated to Blackpool Central (24E). It was withdrawn in June 1968 and cut-up by Cohens of Kettering during December of that year. No. 45318 had the honour of hauling the last scheduled steam-hauled passenger service on BR, the 21:25 from Preston to Liverpool Exchange on Saturday 3rd August 1968.
