The on 22nd May 2010 was the hottest day of the year so far in south Wales and the crew of GWR Castle No. 5029 Nunney Castle must have sweltered in the cab as their steed led the stock forming the 15.45 Fishguard Harbour to Birmingham International, which they would take as far as Cardiff Pengam Sidings where steam would give way to diesel for the remainder of the journey. The excursion was promoted as 'The Southern Irishman' but ran with a headboard proclaiming 'The Red Dragon' and is seen at Kidwelly Flats between Carmarthen and Llanelli.
