The other rack railway up the Rigi mountain starts at Vitznau on the shores of Lake Lucerne. This view of the village from one of the historic paddle steamers on 20th June 1992 shows a two-car Vitznau Rigi Bahn unit on the steep ascent away from the village - the railway climbs at a maximum of 25% to reach the summit at about 4000 feet above the lake. The VRB units are red to distinguish them from the blue of the ARB when the two lines converge towards the summit.
