It was in the late 1970s that the fleet of Class 507 DC EMUs replaced the elderly 1939 LMS built Class 502 units on the 'Merseyrail' network. In this view taken at Birkenhead North, Class 507 No. 507001 enters the station while brand new 'Merseyrail' Class 777 No. 777010 stands in the adjacent platform being displayed to the press on a very hot 7th September 2021.
