Metre-gauge Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn EMU Class BDSeh 4/8 No. 2052 'Pollux', crosses the 1,449 metre high Mattertal Valley and prepares to begin the challenging 355 metre climb via the Taschsand crossing point (where the last rack section begins) and under the avalanche galleries to Zermatt, working the 19:55 Matterhorn Terminal, Tasch to Zermatt Shuttle service on 26th June 2014. Matterhorn Terminal, Tasch is the transfer point for travellers to car-free Zermatt who park their vehicles in one of its 2,100 covered parking spaces and take the train. The only alternative mode of travel to Zermatt is the Taxi service from Tasch. The Monte Rosa Massif, which incorporates Swithzerlandâ??s highest peak (Dufourspitze, 4,634 m); the second-largest glacier in the Alps, the Gorner Glacier; and a total of 29 mountains above 4,000 m, including the Matterhorn can be seen at the head of the valley.
