On a day of hot weather when steam traction was banned from Northern rails, the Carlisle - Farington Junction leg of a returning Carlisle - Euston railtour was exempted from the ban. The successful runner on 12th July 2014 was A4 Class Pacific No. 60009 Union of South Africa, here noted gingerly climbing away from Hellifield en route to the Ribble Valley and Blackburn.
