The tenderless rusting hulks of Gresley A4 Pacific Pacific No. 60026 'Miles Beevor' and Standard Class 8P Pacific Pacific No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' await their fate in Crewe Works yard on 7th January 1967. Having been withdrawn from Ferryhill (61B) in December 1965, the A4 was there to surrender parts for the restoration of No. 4498 'Sir Nigel Gresley. It was new as No. 4485 'Kestrel' from Doncaster Works in February 1937 and initially allocated to Haymarket MPD. It was re-named in November 1947 and re-numbered in September 1949. The remains of the loco were cut up by Hughes Bolckows of North Blyth during September 1967. 71000 was sent to Woodham's scrapyard at Barry in October 1967 but was purchased for preservation by the Duke of Gloucester Steam Locomotive Trust Ltd. and left the yard during April 1974.
