Having arrived at Gloucester's Platform 2 on 14th July 1985 with a service from Plymouth, Class 47 diesel electric No. 47613 'North Star' runs back to Horton Road MPD for fuelling. New from Crewe Works as No. D1661 in February 1965 and first allocated to Landore (87E), the loco was named in a ceremony at London Paddington on 20th March of that year. It became No. 47077 under TOPS in February 1974 and No. 47613 in May 1984. Becoming No. 47840 in November 1989, it remained in service until withdrawal in May 2007, when it was preserved by the Diesel & Electric Preservation Group. The loco is currently in service on the West Somerset Railway.
