Ex-South African Railway Class NGG16 2-6-2+2-6-2 Garratt No. 87 pauses at Rhyd Ddu on 7th October 2013 with the Caernarnon - Porthmadog section of the Pathfinder Tours 'The Scenic Snowdonian' charter. The Porthmadog - Blaenau Ffestiniog section was hauled by Double Fairlie 0-4-4-0T No. 10 'Merddin Emrys'. Running from Salisbury to Holyhead and return, the charter was hauled by DRS Class 47's No. 47501, 47810, 47818 and 47828.
