When 'Virgin' took over 'Cross Country' diagrams, the HST's were out shopped in the vibrant 'Virgin' livery. Here at Birmingham New Street, Class 43 powercar No. 43093 departs with an unidentified working to the West Country in February 1997. Its interesting to note that the cab roofs of the powercar were painted yellow to match the front, however, in service the yellow soon tarnished with exhaust fumes etc and the cab roofs were then painted black. Also of note, the 'XC' branding was applied below the 'Virgin' logo, but eventually the 'XC' branding was dropped and subsequently just the 'Virgin' logo remained.
