'Western' Class diesel hydraulic No. D1070 'Western Gauntlet' gets away from Gloucester Eastgate on 18th March 1971 with a Cheltenham Spa - London Paddington service. It had just passed beneath what had been Barton Street Signal Box until May 1968, after which date it was used to control the level crossing barriers. The line to the left is the High Orchard branch to Gloucester Docks. D1070 was new from Crewe Works in October 1963, withdrawn from service in December 1976 and cut-up at Swindon Works during May 1979.
