'Western' Class 52 diesel hydraulic No. D1023 'Western Fusilier' waits to depart from Exeter St Davids on 22nd May 1971 with a Paignton - London Paddington service. New from Swindon Works in September 1963 and first allocated to Cardiff Canton (86A), it was withdrawn from Laira in February 1977 and survives in preservation at the National Railway Museum.
