The ELR Diesel Gala over the weekend of March 6 - 7 saw the introduction to ELR of Hanson Traction's Class 50 No. 50008. Its introduction to traffic was delayed by heat exchanger problems that were solved by the donation of a spare unit obtained overnight from the Peak Railway based Renown / Repulse Group while its new livery was incomplete due to a simple lack of time. Respendent in its new blue coat, however, No. 50008 eased across Burrs Common on March 6 with the 13:05 Heywood - Rawtenstall service supported by Class 55 55022 Royal Scots Grey working in top 'n tail mode.
