An unidentified Class 45/0 hauling a rake of 10 blue and grey Mark 1 coaches is seen approaching Tyne Marshalling Yard, 5 miles south of Newcastle, on 25th August 1978 with a service from the north. The bridge carrying the A1 trunk road can be seen at the top of the picture, while the image was taken from Smithy Lane which passes over the northern end of Tyne Yard. Unusually the Class 45 has the overhead warning markings placed inside the front marker lights rather than outside.
